Childhood obesity has dramatically increased over the years. For the past three decades, the percentage has gone up to threefold. Moreover, in 2008, the prevalence of childhood obesity among the 6-to-11 age group rose to more than 12 percent.
Obesity among children is not cute and should never be tolerated. It makes them more prone to serious illnesses when they grow up, such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. They easily get tired or stressed. Obesity disrupts the proper function of the body, and it is not surprising if the kids also suffer from mental issues like anxiety and depression.

[WATCH]: Chicago Park District Sept. 2011: Healthy Vending

The Chicago Park District and Parkways Foundation, its nonprofit partner, will be joined by the Chicago Department of Public Health; the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC); the Chicago Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Partnership; and corporate partners in unveiled the first of their new snack vending machines. These new machines will be completely stocked with only healthy snacks. Compass Group USA, Inc. has installed about 20 machines and will have a total of 96 installed within citywide field houses by the end of the year. The new nutritional standards for the snacks in the vending machines include limitations on calories, sodium, fat and sugar per serving. There is also at least one gluten/peanut free item
