Pepsico To Remove High Sugar Drinks From Schools, Worldwide

Under enormous pressure from the American public and political lobbyists to set a 3 cent tax on their high sugar drinks, PepsiCo (PEP) have today announced that they are to work with bottlers, suppliers, community leaders and education authorities throughout the world to remove their high sugar drinks (sometimes referred to as full-calorie carbonated beverages) from schools by 2012.
To some extent this may be seen as a trade off to mollify their critics who place a large amount of the blame at their door for the rapid rise in obesity, particularly in children.
It is, however, a major u-turn for PEP. They have long maintained innocence of any such role; whatever the reasons for obesity, they are not being added to by the consumption of PEP
