Life Insurance V the Overweight
It is no secret that adults (and more worryingly) children are weighing more and more, and in turn, costing the government more and more. It is estimated that obesity is costing the health service over £15 billion per year, not to mention what it is costing those patient’s employers, as obese people are statistically more likely to take time off work. Even with all the relevant health warnings, the government still predicts that these figures will continue to rise, as obesity problems are becoming more apparent with children. This creates a Catch 22 situation; consumers will be refused life insurance because of their weight problems, while insurance companies struggle to find candidates that fit their criteria.
