The NHS receives around 4000 obesity related enquiries every month. It is rapidly becoming a major problem all over the world made more difficult by complexity of the condition make it extremely difficult to fully understand.
Medically speaking the measure for the term obese is a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and a BMI of above 40 would be morbidly obese.
The obesity statistics make for very depressing reading.

About 23% of the adult British population are currently obese.
This figure is even higher in children where the level is around 33%
