When we think about heart disease and stroke we normally associate it with people age 55 and older but younger people are at risk also. If you are under 45 years old your odds of having a stroke are about one in 1000, which is pretty high really. The causes of heart disease and stroke in the older crowd is usually hardening of the arteries and also when bits of plaque in the coronary arteries breaks off and moves towards the brain.
In young people however ,say 18 to 45, the causes of strokes are from totally different reasons, some of which are under the individuals control to prevent.
Some of these causes are:
Using and abusing drugs- such as amphetamines, cocaine and many other speed – type drugs.
