Obesity and Dementia: Take Charge of Your Health
Important News Flash: Being overweight: Proven link to dementia. Being overweight- not just obese- will increase dementia risk to 71%. It has been well documented now that overweight and obesity are directly linked to dementia. However, those who are overweight might think that they were off the hook. Not so, according to a recent study from the Swedish Karolinski Institute. Overweight is defined as a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 25 - 29.9. Obesity is a BMI of greater than 30. Therefore, if you have a risk factor such as a strong family history of dementia, then this study should strike home even harder.
