[WATCH]: Neighborhood Walk
What if the design of modern neighborhoods is a root cause of the American obesity epidemic? James Sallis, a psychology professor at San Diego State University, works on changing how residential areas are designed and constructed in the United States. His goal: prioritize pedestrian access and public parks and de-emphasize the need for cars for everyday life. Several funded studies are examining how environments and psychosocial factors work together to shape physical activity and dietary behaviors, as well as obesity. These studies are being conducted with all ages, with one study being international in scope.
