Bernard Whitman argues that government's primary function is to protect its citizens with as little intervention as possible, whether we are talking about health care, the economy, education, the environment, transportation, or civil rights. We have an obesity epidemic in our country. More than 1/3 of children are obese or overweight and the medical costs associated with obesity are more than 150 billion a year. These costs are outstanding and we need to reduce them.
