About 15.5 percent of adolescents (ages 12 to 19) and 15.3 percent of children (ages 6 to 11) are obese. Moreover, in just two decades, childhood obesity numbers doubled for U.S. children ages 6 to 11 and tripled for American teenagers. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicated that nearly one-third of U.S. children are overweight or at risk of childhood obesity.
