[WATCH]: Curb It! - Walk and Roll Louisiana Summit 2010 - Part 4
Walking, bicycling and being physically active in other ways means reducing risk for obesity and the health problems it causes, such as heart disease and diabetes. Research shows that children will be active if given a safe, dedicated space to do so This panel will review the health benefits of youth walking and bicycling, report on sidewalk and crosswalk conditions surrounding New Orleans public schools, offer information on Safe Routes to School grants, and give examples of what local schools are already doing to encourage their students to be more active. Speakers include: Kate Parker-Karst, Prevention Research Center at Tulane University Shalanda Cole, LaDOTD Safe Routes to SChool Program Matthew Rufo, Prevention Research Center
