American Overcomers Fight Back against Cynicism

With her fist in the air, Liz Maratta barely reaches the height of those around her. But this diminutive brunette with Betty Boop looks claims she's a fighter, or as she would say, an "overcomer."
Ms. Maratta started the American Overcomers movement to counteract what she sees as a widespread cynicism in America. "My father came here from Colombia," she says, "and worked three jobs so he could give his children the opportunities this country offers. The most valuable thing he gave us, besides love, was an overcoming attitude."
